Today I got my last Christmas Gift from my boyfriend. I needed a medic alert bracelet, but one of my allergies is metal, so I researched my options. In the end, this was the best. (Even my doctor agreed that it was a good idea.)

I went to the same artist who did my first two tattoos. He had never heard of a medic alert tattoo before, but was interested to work with me on it. When he finished it, he took a picture of it (something he didn't do for my dragons, though, they aren't finished yet).

I had this tattoo designed so that it had minimal impact and visibility but so it would be visible and legible in a situation where it is necessary. As I'm aiming to go into business, this needed to be as low impact as possible. When my arm is sideways (relaxed at my side, typing at the computer, etc) it is almost completely invisible.

That's incredibly clever, and a good way to work problems. Kudos.

This is actually really helpful, because my friend has epilepsy and a metal allergy, so this is something I'll recommend for her to research.

Thanks!

My recommendation to anyone who is considering one of these is to not get one if they already have arm tattoos, especially if they're near the wrist, othewise they may be dismissed as nothing. They should also make the tattoo look as plain as possible, making it fancy and cool looking means that it's more likely to be dismissed in an emergency. I hope your friend finds the solution right for her!

I'll pass that along to her. I think that's something that might work for her.

(And thank you for the llama.)

Thanks, I did a lot of research before I committed to it. I've since had an image of the bracelet tattooed around the wrist (tag on top, chain around and under the words, there's pics of it in my Project 52 2011 folder). The sites I read said that tattoos are not something that's looked for in an emergency and suggested that most health care professionals would not like it. I've "accidentally" shown it to every doctor and nurse I've dealt with since getting it and they've all been positive about it.

If you have other wrist or arm tattoos, I'd suggest not getting the Medic Alert tattooed because it could be easily mistaken, and if you do get it, make sure it's clear that it is a Medic Alert and not just a pretty picture or something. I'd also suggest getting a real bracelet anyway. If I can find one that's nice and I can actually wear, I'll be wearing one despite the tattoo. A little extra insurance is never a bad thing.

thats a very good point i've got two arms tatt's small and out the way but at the smae time they are still there, i've never seen a med alert tatt before so i know its not something they would look for, my dad solved the problem and carries a card in his wallet in the picture window listing his allergies his diabeties and other health issues, along with emergancy contact number, but then at the same time not alot of people are gonna look into his wallet

I have a medical card in my wallet as well, but if I can't breathe or have passed out, I'd like to be able to just point and people will know what's happening, which is the point of the bracelet and necklace. I got my dad a necklace for his diabetes (he's ex military, so he'll wear a dogtag type necklace, but not a bracelet). It's all up to the individual what they do though.
