'Twas silent that night
and all through the house
all my family was sleeping
including my mouse.
Suddenly down front,
a scuffle and bang.
I stood up and ran,
"St. Nick's here" I sang.
I ran down the hall
to wake up my sister.
"St. Nick is here,
the jolly great Mister."
We snuck to the stairs
and peered down the well.
A shadow of a man,
tall, skiny, and swell.
We knew quite for sure,
with one look at his mitre,
this was St. Nicholas.
Was that there Zwarte Peter?
We slunk down the stairs
and out the front door,
fed carrots to the horses,
they really wanted more.
Inside we raced,
to catch a glimpse of the men
They were filling our clogs,
all of them ten.
We sat down and stared,
eyes all aglow,
at the bounty of candy,
was that a present below?
The men turned around,
we looked at our feet.
"Good evening girls,"
said the man called Zwarte Pete.
They walked out the door.
We looked back in awe,
it was true, no denying it,
their exist, we saw.
We snuck back to bed,
to await the surprise,
morning would come
and we would open our eyes.
