What We Are by ~lost-angle is all about what it is to be an anthro artist, furry, therian, or otherkin. There is much confusion as well as stereotypes related to all of these titles, so I thought it best to share this with all of you.

Anthro Artist
Anthro artists are anyone who draws anthropomorphic art. “Anthro” is defined as something that is essentially non-human (including inanimate objects) that has been given human characteristics, such as having an almost-human bone structure.
Furry/Avian/Scaly
“Furries” are people who have an affinity toward the anthro style of art. Furries usually identify themselves with a “fursona” – an anthro version of themselves. They are a fandom (like anime fans are “otaku”). There are many levels of the furry fandom: It extends from simply being an artist, to wearing “fur-suits,” and attending “fur-cons.” However, this is not limited to furries, it extends to scalies and avians - people who identify themselves with a winged or scaly anthro characters. It should also be noted that while the above is correct, Furry, Avian, and Scaly are just fandoms. A lot of people in the anthro community, while falling under the parameters to be a furry, do not consider themselves to be one for whatever reason. The most common reason I have heard is the Furry association with Yiff. It is common misconception that all Furries are into Yiff, when it is quite the opposite and there is only a rather small following of yiff and the vast majority of furries in the fandom avoid yiff at all costs.
Therian
A “therian” is someone with an integral part of their being as that of an animal - be it their soul or some other aspect of who they are. One does not become a therian, they are born one.
Otherkin
“Otherkins” are similar to therians - but instead of an earthly animal - their soul is that of a fantastical animal. Otherkins include as elves, “fae” folk, and other mythological beings

Why Hate Furries?
There is NO good reason for someone to hate furries, the media has portrayed only a very very small part of the fandom that can be classified as "wrong" or "weird". Simply put, the fandom is ALOT larger and ALOT less freaky than the media shows it to be. Whenever there is something weird or strange, the media says"Hey! That's Something We Can Exploit!" But then the media drops the positive aspects of what they are showing, This is because the media only shows weird, wrong, tragic, or painful. That is why most people think furries are nothing but freaks who dress up in fursuits and have sex orgies with eachother. (yes i saw that CSI episode) S

Why are we furries
A question I have heard more than once; "why are you a furry? What's up with that?" Usually a closeminded mock-question, but on a few occasions, pure curiosity. It occured to me one day that it may be in my interest to ponder this myself: Why are we furries? Indeed, what in the blue hell is up with that?
On the surface, trying to discover the motivations of someone who invisions themselves as a sentient mythical beast may prove more than just a little difficult. A question like this will most definitely take more than just a single general theory to answer, but I'd like to think that my musings may inspire someone of greater intellect to tre

Point 1: What is furry?
it's a fairly broad term, and it seems like there are quite a few differences in oppinions over it. But there are the general points on it. Simply put, a fur/furry/fursona/etc is an anthropomorphic animal. We must then further define that by defining anthropomorphic... Anthro (which is the shortterm nowadays) means to give human character

I'm sorry to those of my watchers who are not into anthro, but this is something I feel needs to be done.
`Katmomma has also done a consisce version of what is anthro and what is furry, you can see that here.
In the newsletters `cooley and `skifi have been trying to help us better understand what anthro art is, and cooley is doing the interviews with therians and furrys. I think that there are still a lot of people out there that do not know what a therian or furry or otherkin is (including myself, up until a fey days ago). I decided to write this and, it is now in the anthro newsletter [link] by cooley. `cooley and `skifi have also posted news articles on what anthro (the art form) is. This [link] one is in the form of descriptions. And this [link] one in images. I hope this helps clear things up.
Please let me know if there is anything I missed in anything in the definitions, I know there is.
OMG A DD!!!!!! WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
