Where Hands Wander 51

My theme for project 52 is "where my hands wander" so every picture will have one or both of my hands in it.

Stealing chocolate off the Christmas Tree. I don't know where the tradition comes from or why we have it. All I know is that when we were young children, my Opa and Oma (grandfather and grandmother to those of you who aren't Dutch) would send us a box at Christmas. It would have our gifts in it along with a bunch of Dutch candies and chocolates and cookies. In that box would also be chocolate rings. The rings would always get strings and be hung on the tree, right after all the normal decorations and right before the candy canes. Dad would always be the one to string the chocolates and there would always be at least three "broken" rings in the box, one for each of us kids. When Opa and Oma stopped sending us the boxes with chocolates in them, we'd get them at the local Dutch store. We still do it, every year. And every year, they always get slowly eaten off the tree before Christmas eve.

Do you have any traditions around your Christmas tree (or other holiday based object) that aren't necessarily typical, that you have to explain whenever anyone comes over?

(Everyone always asks us, why do you have chocolate on the tree? or is it edible?)
