Dictionary Entry: 32We're definately back in business now. Everything's lined up and hopefully (though I've said this before) we'll only be missing a week here and there.
You may notice something, that's right, I'm a CV now, for the Chats and Forums, feel free to message me regarding them. There are a BUNCH of new CVs too, so check out the updated Community Relations Team post to see who's looking after what. If you want to see this article regularly, please be sure you're watching dA-Dictionary as I'm not the only one who posts the article. See you around!

Dictionary Entries: 27We have new people on staff! That's right, give a warm welcome to the four new people who will be helping out! bradleysays, Katara-Alchemist, Xadrea, and Tifa22 will be helping myself and namenotrequired post the dictionary entries. Hopefully this means that we'll be able to stay on track with updates once a week (at least every two weeks). It's definately a load off my mind! It also feels amazing that something I started on a whim has grown to be this big. That's your doing!
The birthday celebrations last week were amazing with high participation from everyone. Can't wait until next year's when dA is officially old enough to be on the internet and no longer a COPPA violation!
Other than that, there's nothing really going on with the dictionary. I (personally) am collecting points again to use for prizes in contests and for random donations. The birthday celebrations cleaned
Dictionary Entry: 31There is no one to blame but me for our long hiatus. There were a few glitches in the rotation with the new volunteers and then things just piled on top and I ended up procrastinating too long. I'm sorry. I really do hope that we'll be able to stay on top of this with weekly or once every two weeks postings. As always, please forgive me for being late!
Due to the sheer volume of links involved, it is inevitable that I accidentally deleted some that might have otherwise been included. I did intentionally delete some contest links for contests that have already closed.

The Dictionary Skin Contest The deadline has been extended by 2 weeks due to lack of participation. The new deadline is June 4th
Are you interested in winning a 3 Month Premium Membership and 1,000 points? Do you have awesome CSS skills?
dA-Dictionary is looking for a new journal skin. While our current skin is really awesome, it feels more like "devWEAR" than "Dictionary."
The base of the skin should look like a page in an old book, light brown/off-white.
Headers, titles, and links should be the same colour.
The overall feel of the skin should be like when you open an encyclopedia. (Think waay back to when you had to use them in school and you could only find a book from 5 years ago in your school library.)
You must be a member of this group to enter.
All entries must be submitted to this folder. Entries not submitted to that folder will not be a

We still need a few people to help out with submitting the entries. For those who are interested, 270 messages (journals/news), 57 links, 2 hours start to finish.

Dictionary Entries: 25As you can probably tell, we got a new skin! Thanks goes out to Ikue who built this skin for us on commission. Incidentally, he also built the skin we were using before. Since we also needed a new icon, we got one of those too! Ikue was wonderful and made that as a part of the same commission. Check it out!
The order and arrangement of the sections may change slightly as we work out how to use the new skin, so bear with us through that. We could also still use some help keeping the dictionary updated, if you're interested, please send us a note.
Again, for those interested, 206 messages just this week (in just news and jorunals), 44 of which were links, and it took a total of an hour and a half to write (after getting the CSS in order).

2013 #devart eWeddings Wrap-UpWhen all is said and done, the vows have been made and immediately broken, the chatroom's been swept up, and the privclasses reorganized, it's nice to look back on the event with fond memories. In that light, we remember the crazy happenings of February 14, 2013, a day we saw love so pure and simple, and a day we saw two people get left at the altar.
Contrary to tradition, or maybe it's a new tradition, we held two separate ceremonies, one at 2pm PST and one at 5pm. You can view the full logs for each timeslot here: 2pm and 5pm.
Thank you for everyone who attended, who got married voluntarily, and who grudgingly accepted their forced marriage. I hope you all had a wonderful time and we hope to see you again next year!
The Happy Couples
Why you feature stolen work?!?!Lately there seem to have been a few myths flying around in particular with regards to how we as Community Volunteers, give Daily Deviations. Many people seem to think that we sit at our desks in dark little rooms and let out evil laughter whilst we purposefully feature stolen work. The dark rooms and laughter - well I can't say yes or no on that one! But I can promise you it's not our intent to give exposure to people who have stolen work. I recently featured a piece of work that turned out to be stolen. However I went into extensive conversations with the artist before I featured it, and with added metadata and dates, it's difficult to know where to draw the line. I've given people the benefit of the doubt before - and it's worked out nicely as their work has been legitimate. Below are some comments I have seen being thrown around the past few days - and hopefully an attempt to bust the myth.
"I thought at least that you people would check to make sure the work was the
Seniority Announcements - January 2013
This article marks the latest additions to the dizzy height of Senior members in our community. With just over 1000 deviants holding the highly saught after ` -- it's clearly a moment that deserves recognition.
So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community.
Some people have received Seniority because of their artistic endevours, having a positive influence on their peers by sharing resources, providing constructive criticism and by being a voice that stands out above the many other
A Note on Daily Deviation FeaturesAt ten features into my tenure as Community Volunteer for Abstract & Surreal Photography I am noticing a certain trend in response to abstract and surreal Daily Deviations. I shall address some of the recurring themes here, and hopefully answer some questions along the way. At this point I would like to mention that I am talking about a small and vocal minority, and I sincerely thank the overwhelming majority for supporting the featured artists and their work. You're what makes this site such a great community.
With that said, let's get to the troublesome themes I am coming across.
The "This is crap!" Argument
As an observer and a critic, you're entitled to think that something isn't very good. However, exclaiming as such on the comments of a piece of work that an artist has spent time and energy creating is not only counter-productive, but rude and insulting, especially if it's not followed up with some advice about how you think they could make their
Gallery Makeover ProjectHello everyone
Recently my team and I worked tirelessly on a project to help improve the gallery descriptions and thumbnail examples. While that project was indeed tedious with almost 4,000 categories in our system, it was also educational. What I learned from sorting through thousands and thousands of categories was that we have a lot of redundancy and a lot of categories that seem to have been created on a whim that are now simply homes for junk.
Over the years, the desire to appease niche communities and people who just wanted a specific area has led to some categories that go up to 4 levels deep, and it's really no wonder it's so confusing for people to figure out where to submit their artwork.
The conclusion I've come to is simplicity. While I'm not about to rip apart everything and make 6 stand alone categories, I do believe that there is a lot we can do to simplify the category tree. That includes some of the following:
1. Merging categories that ma
The CR Stamp Project
Stamps are a great way to show your support for a project, a person or a group of people, spread awareness for a cause or promote a contest. It is also valid to do them just for fun, with just a funny image and/or message.
Since their introduction to the deviantArt galleries, millions of stamps have been created with a great variety of messages, both silly and serious, and you can see them all over the place, from journals to profile widgets.
The Community Relations department exists to encourage, facilitate and develop the relationship with our deviantART community. Our goal is to nurture our community by encouraging, stimulating artists to create, collaborate, and participate in a friendly, safe, and supportive artistic environment.

Calling all beta testers, bug lovers and feature loving deviants.
I have exciting news! devBUG is looking for some new deviants to be Alpha Tester!
But what is an alpha tester?
An Alpha tester is a bit like a Beta tester only they get to test out new features before Beta testers do.
So, what do alpha testers get to do?
As an alpha tester you'll have the chance to talk to staff and developers about new and upcoming features, and help find and report any bugs that there may be, before it goes to beta testers or th

1. Happy Holidays and Merry New Year
As the old year begins to fade into the sunset, it is customary to reflect on the passing year and make plans for the upcoming one. Some do this in the form of resolutions, some people make action plans, some people just swing into the new year the same way they swung out of the old one Whatever way you intend to welcome in 2013, I hope you're surrounded by love and that you do it safely!
I've been reflecting on the year and like many, with some focus on the unimaginable events of the last few weeks. Specifically, the shooting in Newtown. I know that it's "human nature" to want to find

How It Began"God, your two o'clock is here."
"I have a two o'clock?"
"He's been here since 7:45. I figured it's only polite to... sir."
God sighed. "Fine, send him in."
While He waited God cleared His desk of papers and blueprints; no need for outsiders to see His plans. Soon enough the door to His office opened and God stood, smiled, held out a hand towards one of the two visitor's chairs.
"God! Great stuff you're doing in sector 2-7-0! Great stuff!"
The man's hands were clammy, his handshake limp. Rumpled suit, porkpie hat, briefcase... oh Jes-- oh dear, a salesman. God's smile slipped a little but He soldiered on gamely. With luck He could shoo the poor guy away in a few minutes.
"So, what can I do for you?"
The man sat, briefcase across his knees. "Sector 2-7-0! Everyone's talking about it! What do you call it? Man and merman?"
"Man and woman, actually. And thanks. But we're pretty busy around here, and..."
"Oh! Right! No time for the wicked, eh?" The salesman winked and popped his briefcase,
